Karma Cake

Every morning

Rebirth of the mind

Daily life karma

//

Feed it bitterness today

Get the bill tomorrow

//

Set out to learn to bake

Got obsessed

with the Big Bake Off

hosted by Buddha master baker

//

This baking thing

didn’t come naturally

and I only had this battered old oven

//

interrupted by frequent powercuts

and sugar often in short supply

//

But today is the day, dear mind

I take off my apron

and present you with

a big slice of layered cake

//

Biscuit base of diligence – thick but not too dense

Cream of patience – whipped just long enough

Velvety compassion jam – sweet with sour notes

Icing of trust – not too thin

Red sprinkles of joy on top

(and some more for good measure)

//

I’ll serve it to you

on a childrens plate

made of plastic

just for a laugh

//

Sometimes this kind of thing

Needs a little Donald-Duckness

Too important

to be taken too serious

//

As I witness your delight

and hear you giggle

all burns are forgotten

//

My oven gloves

are better these days anyway

//

Happy re-birthday, dear mind

Tuck in

Plenty left for tomorrow.

  1. Hello Kerstin

    Many thanks for this

    I hope that you are well 😊

    My journey continues slowly onwards. I have returned to Samye Ling – the grounds are a source of calm
