Miracles Matter

Dear Intellect,

Please help me to understand how Excel works and how much tax I have to pay. Help me to remember my friend’s birthday and the bus timetable.

But please take a rest when it comes to miracles.

Please don’t bother explaining to me:

The iridescent plumage of a starling.

The sound of leaves dancing on the ground in a breeze.

The tree so old it would take three people to fully embrace it.

The beauty of a cormorant drying its wings on a rock.

The elegant soundlessness of a lizard.

The detail in a snowflake.

The intelligence of a corvid.

The smell of the earth after heavy rainfall.

The nightsky.

The incredible detail in thick tree bark, unfathomable to my hands.

The beautiful call of a lapwing.

The sound of reeds moving in the wind.

The smell of wet forest.

The incredible detail on the wings of a moth.

The network of veins in a leaf x-raid by the sun.

Morning dew on blades of grass.

The warm breath of a horse made visible by cold air.

The sound of a rabbit eating.

The extravagance of colours in pebbles on the beach.

The wonder that is this earth and the wonder of being alive.

There are things I never want to understand, ever.

Some things I just want to live.
